    • Eat Nutrient Rich Foods

Filling your plate with whole, unprocessed foods will ensure that you are getting the needed vitamins and antioxidants to support your immune system. Citrus, bell peppers, spinach, sweet potatoes and blueberries are rich in Vitamin C and Antioxidants, while fatty fish, nuts and seeds are rich in Vitamin E- another immune boosting nutrient.

    • Eat Probiotic Rich Foods

Probiotics support gut health, which plays a large role in immune function. Nourishing the gut with these “good bugs” will ensure you have a healthy and balanced gut microbiome. Foods like yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut and kefir are all great to include regularly to ensure this healthy balance. This becomes even more important if you take a course of antibiotics for an illness- replacing the friendly flora helps restore balance and supports your body’s natural defenses.

    • Adequate Rest and Water

Sleep and hydration are key to keeping your immune system functioning at its best.  Aiming for half of your body weight in ounces of fluids per day, and 7-9 hours of sleep are good goals to help your body recover and fend off illness.

These simple immune boosting strategies will help you enjoy the holiday season with energy and good health!
